Facing Your Future Fearlessly

Charles Gellman is boldly going where no one has gone before… Okay, I don’t know if that statement is entirely accurate, but I thought it would be cool to use a Star Trek reference to describe the future of health care.

Health care is intensely personal, and technology is often confusing.  Artificial Intelligence and robotics are very intimidating for a lot of people.  

This strange and scary combination of health and robotics made for a fascinating conversation with Charles Gellman, whose HiDO device uses AI and robotics to face the future of health care fearlessly.  

Charles was improperly diagnosed during a hospital stay, and this diagnosis almost cost him his life. Many people have an inherent dislike of hospitals and distrust of medicine.  It would be expected for Charles to be extremely hostile toward the healthcare industry.

Instead, he used his lousy experience as the catalyst to find a better way to deliver health care in the future. This caused him to explore how AI and robotics could be leveraged to help provide more accurate health care.

As technology advances, it is becoming increasingly clear that human-AI interaction is the future of health care. The combination of human expertise and artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach health care, making it more accessible, efficient, and effective.

One century ago, most people didn’t have reasonable access to a hospital because of transportation challenges. Therefore, medicine had to go to the home instead of people going to hospitals. Science, medical care, and transportation change at a rate that makes the style of health care 100 years ago almost unimaginable.

Charles has figured out a formula to bring health care back into the home more accurately than the family doctor could provide.

AI-powered devices can monitor patients’ vital signs and alert healthcare professionals to any changes or potential issues, allowing for earlier intervention and better outcomes. Additionally, AI will enable patients to receive care from the comfort of their own homes, reducing the burden on healthcare facilities and increasing access to care for those in remote or underserved areas.

I used the family doctor analogy in my interview with Charles. I mentioned that 100 years ago, the doctor’s black bag needed to contain the medicine to treat whatever the family was suffering from.

Today, Charles has replaced the doctor’s black bag with robotics. This unusual combination of AI and robotics has created a system to deliver medications on demand without fail.  But, one of Charles’ most significant challenges is getting people to trust his robotics and AI device like they would trust the family doctor’s black bag.

A key benefit of human-AI interaction in health care is the ability to analyze vast amounts of data quickly and accurately. This can lead to earlier diagnoses, more personalized treatments, and better patient outcomes.

AI can also help healthcare professionals identify patterns and trends that humans may miss, allowing for more proactive and preventative health care.

It takes time to develop trust in humans or technology.  There’s no way around it. AI will influence the future of health care.  Robotics aren’t just for Star Trek episodes anymore. They are here to stay.  AI can achieve a rate of accuracy that no doctor on the planet can match.  Robotics never leave the office for a vacation.  Combining the two can significantly benefit the future of health care worldwide.
